How long have you been CrossFitting?

I’ve been Crossfitting since November 2014.

Tell us about yourself… Where are you from?

I grew up in Bolivia, South America. I moved to the US 10 years ago to attend Brigham Young University in Utah. I’ve lived in D.C., Virginia, Utah, Idaho, California, and Texas, and the last one has been my favorite! I love love love the Southern hospitality and the weather here. And I’m a dog mom to Poki who sometimes shows up with me at the 6:30 AM class.

What’s your occupation?

I’m a HR specialist at BambooHR. I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home. =]

How did you hear about CrossFit Luna and why did you decide to join?

I had just moved to Las Colinas area and my first day in Dallas my husband and I happened to drive by Luna and decided to stop by to check it out. Coach Dhenmark talked to us about the membership and the schedule. It was so close to my house than other gyms that I decided to sign up thinking it was a bootcamp class or a private training program. I didn’t know anything about Crossfit!!! I didn’t even look it up on google or youtube before showing up to my first elements class! I know! Who does that?  Anyway after my first month I loved the coaches and workouts. I was sold on it and decided to stick around. =]

How have you seen yourself change – mentally or physically – since being a part of CrossFit Luna?

Mentally I’ve gained more confidence. I think for the first 6 months of doing Crossfit I never showed up on Thursdays for the stamina classes, I just thought they were too hard for me. Now they’re one of my favorite days. I’ve learned to set my mind to success before the workout and that has helped me not  to be scared of the workouts the coaches post the night before. Also I look forward waking up at 6 AM to workout now.

Physically I’ve seen what my body can do and it’s amazing! Never in my dreams I’d think that I could lift what I’m able to lift now. I’m only 5 ft. tall and I’m beating my own PRs every week, it’s the best feeling!

What is your favorite exercise?

Squats and sit-ups!  And I like burpees and burpees like me!

What is your least favorite exercise?

Double unders & rowing. =[

What has been your favorite WOD so far?

Murph!!! I loved learning the story behind that workout.

What has been your least favorite WOD?

Anything with lots of rowing! Everything I see 1K rowing in the WOD I’m like “AHHH”

If you had to name a WOD, what would you name it?

“Alex’s Dance Party!” It will have lots of squats and dancing!

What are some of your goals for the coming year?

Work on my upper body and do 5 unbroken strict pull-ups! Or more.

How do you see CrossFit being different than other fitness programs?

What I love about CrossFit is that the workouts are different every day and that the coaches are there to help us reach new levels. I used workout on my own at a regular gym and did lots of Instagram yoga and fitness challenges, but I never had a coach to tell me if I was doing the workout right or wrong and also didn’t see much difference in my body. CrossFit is a fantastic way to get out of your comfort zone, push your limits, and surround yourself with competitive like-minded people. And on top of that you get to see the results on your body! #gainz

Did you think the sport of fitness would ever be for you?

I did think I would always be playing a sport or join a regular gym and stay active, but never thought CrossFit would be it for me.

How can other people relate to your story?

I’m not sure how to answer this question, but if you’re petite like me and afraid of CrossFit and lifting, don’t be! If I can do it anyone can do it! =]

What is something that others may not know about you?

I love to Latin dance and dance in general, I love to cook international foods, I’m learning photography on my own and love to take newborn photo-shoots awith the family dog (so cute!), and this month marks my 3-year wedding anniversary.

Thanks to the Luna community for the support and friendship!
