How long have you been CrossFitting?
I started CrossFitting in June 2015.
Tell us about yourself… Where are you from?
I am originally from Bellevue, WA right outside of Seattle. I graduated from Abilene Christian University in May of 2014, where I played baseball for 1 season before I decided to stop playing due to an injury. After graduation, I realized it was finally time to grow up, so I moved to the DFW area and began my career in finance. I love going out and spending time with friends and family, eating large amounts of food, making people laugh, and the Seattle Seahawks
What’s your occupation?
I am a High Net Worth Case Manager at Fidelity Investments. I help clients with complex issues and any additional investment trading or money movement needs.
How did you hear about CrossFit Luna and why did you decide to join?
I heard about CrossFit Luna on Yelp. I had heard for years how great CrossFit was from my friends but I was always hesitant to join. I always felt like CrossFit was just like any other workout program and the ultimate goal was to lift as much weight as quickly as possible. I was incredibly wrong!
I decided to give CrossFit a try because I was bored with going to the gym everyday doing the same workouts day after day. CrossFit Luna had great ratings and reviews online and I felt it was a great place to give CrossFit a shot. I showed up to the elements class and realized that CrossFit Luna was more than a CrossFit gym, but it was a community that strived to help it’s members achieve their fitness goals through proper movement. I was sold! That night after my first class I signed up and it has been one of the best decisions I have made!
How have you seen yourself change – mentally or physically – since being a part of CrossFit Luna?
I have seen huge changes in myself both mentally and physically.
I am much more willing to step outside of my comfort zone in every aspect of my life. I now love the challenge of trying to improve my weaknesses instead of just focusing on my strengths. CrossFit has also provided me an outlet to compete. I have always been extremely competitive and CrossFit allows me the opportunity to compete to be the best that I can be.
I have gotten stronger but most importantly I have improved my mobility. Anyone that knows me, knows that mobility has always been an issue for me in my athletic career. While I still need to improve my mobility, I have seen huge improvements and feel much more mobile than I previously was.
What is your favorite exercise?
Probably rowing. One of the few benefits of being tall in CrossFit!
What is your least favorite exercise?
Easy question, BURPEES!
What has been your favorite WOD so far?
I love the Saturday WODs. They are always challenging and usually it is a great opportunity to work with a partner or a team to complete the WOD. It also doesn’t hurt that I don’t have to come in at 6:30am for the workout and then show up at work after.
What has been your least favorite WOD?
Anything with a lot of burpees
If you had to name a WOD, what would you name it?
“You Must Be This Tall To Ride” It would probably involve rowing, box jumps, and some other exercise that benefits tall people.
What are some of your goals for the coming year?
To overhead squat and develop a handstand pushup.
How do you see CrossFit being different than other fitness programs?
CrossFit is more than just showing up and lifting weights or running. CrossFit is a community where you build relationships through fitness. When I started CrossFit, I was amazed by the support that I received from the coaches and other athletes.
The best part about CrossFit is that it doesn’t matter where you are in your fitness journey, CrossFit has something for everyone. It doesn’t matter how fit you are, how much you can lift, or how fast you can run, anyone can do CrossFit and achieve their fitness goals.
Did you think the sport of fitness would ever be for you?
Yes, I have always been extremely competitive and have always been very active. I have played sports my whole life so I knew I would always need some sort of physical activity to challenge myself.
How can other people relate to your story?
I was a recent college graduate that had been working for about a year in a new city. While I had a good job and a great group of friends, I was missing something in my life. I was tired of going to the gym and doing the same thing day after day and I realized I needed something new where I could push myself both mentally and physically. Once I started CrossFit I knew I found exactly what I was looking for. I never thought CrossFit would be for me, but I was wrong and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the CrossFit Luna Wolfpack.
What is something that others may not know about you?
After my freshman year of college I was asked to be an escort at a debutant ball. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I ended up taking ballroom dancing classes so I could learn to waltz for the event. While I don’t have a future on Dancing With The Stars, I fortunately didn’t fall or injure anyone while waltzing. I can honestly say ballroom dancing in a room full of people was one of the most nerve racking moments of my life.
